Redwoods are highly, highly unlikely to come down in the first 200-300 years or so, just structurally, but that is definitely a safe rule.
There was someone in Vancouver, I suspect one landscape design company in the 70s or 80s, that put redwoods in all sorts of high-density urban housing development type spaces. Some are only a foot or two away from the walls now, aand because they grow in girth so quickly I'm not sure what happens next.
