There's a lot more information in an ovum than a sperm, generally speaking! It does make a difference. I had tried to do some reciprocal crosses to test this year (where the same two plants are crossed twice, with a different one as mother and pollen donor each cross) but they didn't turn out. Not that I don't have enough F1s.
