Re the CaH post, I find that it's another riff on the idea put forth by the "why you shouldn't tell rape jokes" articles that were a thing a while back: you can never be sure who isn't being "ironically" offensive and who might be someone who feels supported in their sincere bigotry by your laughter. Back when I thought "we" were all playing it to be mock-horrified because we knew we weren't that bad, it was fun. But when I started getting the idea that not everyone was laughing in a meta way...it just stopped being something I could tolerate.
