The fix is almost always adding organic matter. That buffers or corrects most weird chemistry/nutrient/soil structure things that are going on, in an in-ground context. In a pot or hydroponics it's a bit of a different ballgame. Biotic issues also different but, assuming a bunch of nearby perennial cover, also often resolve themselves with time. Except the darn voles.
