Well, I'm back from Salt Spring.
I met up with mom on Friday for lunch, then headed out for my first ever trip to Salt Spring island, and also my first ever solo ferry ride. It took an amazing amount of time to get there (left 1:30 downtown, arrived on Salt Spring at 5:45) and less time to get back, cause Juggler picked me up at the Tsawwassen terminal (to non-Vancouverites, that's a real placename).
It was a pretty cool experience. Highlights involved the outdoor shower in the middle of the woods (no runnning water or electricity there, but if you heat it over the woodstove, an outside shower is not actually cold even in January), the 'bathroom' (three-sided shed perched with a commanding view of the lake, someone designed it for contemplation but not privacy), the cabin itself (all wood, handmade, surprisingly warm and comfy) and of course the forest.
Kyle's changed a lot, but there's a core feeling to him that's the same. I don't want to elaborate on lj too much about it, but while he's found a lot of his direction, it seems like other bits are still missing. He's got a lot together over the years, though.
I spent a lot of time walking along coastline forests with him. I think I ended up with mild windburn/sunburn/exposure or something, because last night when I stumbled off the ferry at 8:45 pm my skin felt burning-y and I felt kind of feverish. I think I'm feeling better this morning, though my throat seems to be sharp and prickly. Sigh. This really is the winter-of-always-being-sick. :P
Nice to be at home now, though, and in my bed for a night. I did have terrible dreams of losing my voice and trying to convince Chris to do the talking when I was apartment-hunting. Please, no more with the voice out there!
Now, wandering off to figure what today will be like.
