CSA is exciting.

Dear everyone,
It's that time of year again: the Yarrow Ecovillage Organic Farm is taking applications for membership in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project! Sorry for getting this email out to you a bit later than usual, but I'm still at school in Slovenia (until the end of June), so our CSA season is starting a little later this year!
The Yarrow Ecovillage Farm CSA provides nutritious, sustainable and delicious berries, veggies, plants, herbs and value-added products suitable for the 100 Mile Diet. Joining the CSA is a great way to reduce carbon emissions and make a positive step towards sustainable living. We grow over 30 varieties of produce, all certified organic. CSA members receive a biweekly newsletter with recipes.
How It Works:
This year, we are trying a different CSA model which will provide our members with more choice and will hopefully be even more user (and farmer!) friendly.
As usual, members purchase a share in the harvest ($75 minimum share, plus an admin and materials fee of $15 for farm pick-ups or $25 for pick-ups at East Vancouver Farmer's Market). However, instead of receiving a
predetermined bag of randomly chosen produce, members will receive a biweekly 'Fresh Sheet' by email, detailing the types, quantities and prices of the produce available. Members can then choose which items they'd like to order for pick up that week.
Once you've made your choices and sent me your order by email (by Wednesday midnight at the latest!), the cost of the order will be debited from your share account. Your order will then be harvested and prepared for pick-up on Friday or Saturday. Members can choose to 'top up' their share account at any time during the season, and will be sent a reminder when their account is nearing zero.
CSA harvests will begin in the first weeks of July and will continue until the end of September/start of October. Harvest is still on Friday, and produce is available for pick up after 5pm on Friday or Saturday from the farm fridges/coolers (during the day) or the East Van Farmer's Market (during market hours between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm). Produce not picked up at the farm by Saturday evening will be composted or put to some use (but will still be debited from the member's share), as we do not have very much storage space to keep produce for longer.
As we are trying out this new CSA system, we are not going to increase the numbers of our CSA members much beyond that of last year. Previous members will have priority for membership, but must sign up and deposit their share price by the 25th of June in order to save their spot. Other memberships will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Once we have reached capacity, we will start a waitlist. There is a strong possibility that we will accept new members during the middle of the season, as we get a hang of
our new CSA format.
How To Join or Renew:
Send me an email at this address asap, letting me know if you wish to renew your membership. If you are interested in joining the CSA for the first time, please send me an application email which includes your name, pick up location (farm or EV Farmer's Market) and your contact details. I will let you know if there are any spaces left, or contact you with waitlist details if there aren't.
Please email me with any questions you have.
Talk to you soon,
