For Real

You can't be everything to everyone.  There are even some things you can't be to very many people at all.  Loyalty, for example, if too thinly spread, means something different.  Likewise you cannot be there for everyone all the time.

These are words I've been hearing all my life, but they're more visceral now.  I realise that trying to be what everyone wants me to be automagically leads to failure, which pops me into the cycle.

Sometimes you must turn things down, Greenie.  That sort of hurt and disappointment caused to people is better than setting people up before letting them down.
