All about the food
May. 16th, 2010 02:08 pm...well, and making more rat homes out of bowls, and hammocking, and rewashing the floors, etc, etc. But in terms of food, it's obviously an ideal situation to be making a soup stock and a veggie plate at the same time. Carrot peels, celery leaves, mushroom stalks, broccoli or cauliflower leaves-- it's basically a zero-cost zero-work return, because you just have the pot right there and put things in it instead of the garbage/compost. I've added some seawweed to mine, and the can juice from the chickpeas from hummous (I do not have a predictable enough schedule to soak/cook my own chickpeas).
Trying some marinaded mushrooms too. Sage, coriander, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, salt, oil. We'll see. Could use chive flowers.
Speaking of hummous, more fun when you hand-mash? Maybe. I need to learn to pulp garlic smoothly with a knife. That would make me a measurably cooler person.
Plum lemonade is a no-brainer. What a luxurious time of year: time to use up the surplus you put away for winter as fast as possible.
I need to get my tomatoes in 'the ground', this being their final pots. Also need more soil for that, and to pot up my mahoganies, etc, etc.
Yesterday was really hectic, but beautiful and happy-making. Today might just be more low-key than I was worried about.
Finally, does anyone remember an internet game, maybe for charity, where you had to come up with the definition of a word-- you selected the correct definition out of four, and I believe kept going until you got either one or three wrong. I remember playing it a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. Can't for the life of me remember now...?
