Time, Peace, and Unconsciousness

greenstormI'm not really sure what's up with this sleep business. I -know- I sleep less in the summer, but it's never hit me to quite this extent before. Except for the first night home from the Other House I seem to be averaging something like four/five hours a night, if that. It makes me strange in the mornings -- I can't wake up instantly like I'm used to. And I think it makes me more irritable. I need to practice sleeping in and napping, I think, since I'm unlikely to get everyone else to alter their schedules for me. Maybe I need to drag them around and to get more exercise, too. That does sometimes help.
There's distressingly little to do in my garden at this point. I need to remember to ask the SO to bring some used pallets home from work so I can chop them up and use them to set plants on. Can you remember that, SO?
I also need to stop RPing for a bit. My left wrist is acting up -- funny how it tends to hurt when you come back to typing after an absence, rather than when you've been doing it for awhile.
I'm on my way to being packed for the day -- I have some leather and some airplane leather that I'm taking to the Juggler's. We're going to see if we can't construct some collars (one of my things) out of it. My CD collection, such as it is, seems to be migrating slowly over there.
Back to RP, since it seems to be a big topic for me lately: one of my all-time favourite RPers from a year or two ago showed up again recently. That makes three of my favourites active, which is pretty damn cool. Another re-activated a long-idle character, which in turn enables me to activate a long-idle character. There are definitely slow periods on Otherspace, but they just as definitely don't last forever.
My white bird-of-paradise is opening yet another ginormous leaf. I'm trying to get it acclimatised to outside so it can go on the deck for the summer, but I'm not home enough to put it out every day and bring it in at night. I may need to just put it out and hope. The thing's really doing well -- I'm impressed, it was a mess after I bought it as a Wal-Mart cheapie when we moved in. I'm betting it can reach ten feet high. I saw seeds for the orange variety in Southlands nursery. That might be an interesting project.
The bird of paradise is my favourite flower in the world. I wonder if I can get it to flower?
SO and my date night last night. It started off with some friction, surprise surprise, and ended up being a nice low-key thing. I can't help but think, what happened to us? I distinctly remember on that first night that I was like, this person is exactly like me! Now our conversational styles and goals are so different that we end up talking more about them than the content of the thought. He's still intensely interesting, perhaps moreso because he is so different -- but I guess we're out of practice figuring out how to get those interesting bits back and forth.
And he is under a lot of stress. *sigh* Some of that's my doing. No, that's not any of your business.
The cherries on the tree outside my window are heavy and green now, almost as nice as when the tree was blooming before the wind came along to swirl the petals up like some snowstorm in a water-globe. Not quite as nice, but close. The male kiwi flowers are gone, some of the females are dropping. I'm not sure if I got any pollination at all. It serves me right since I didn't touch it with a brush -- I relied completely on nature, given that I was away. We'll see, we'll see.
Did I mention that Heritage is one of the most beautiful roses anywhere? Perfect form. I can't even begin to describe it. Perfect form. Go look.
Clematis is growing like mad, bamboo shoots are shot and unfurling leaves -- the culm sheathes have come off already. They're still bright green, and I'm curious how long it'll take them to turn black.
Both my avacado pits are sprouting along, no leaves yet but broken wide open by the new shoot. The Juggler got a pineapple the other day -- if that's still around I may try growing the top just for kicks. They have room for houseplants... or yard-plants during the summer. ;)
I wonder if they've been keeping my stir-fry stuff moist? I wonder if any of it's up yet? I've never tried any of this stuff before but it's pretty much all standard cole crop stuff, and in good deep soft soil.
Those blueberries really need to be mulched, and the clematis should be. the whole garden needs to be mulched, actually. All that dry soil, just sitting there... ick. Gives me the shudders. Good soil isn't meant to be bare.
Oh, yeah. Need to get on those tomato cages before it's too late. The tomatoes should be taking off pretty quick soon here, as soon as they've got some roots in the ground. It's pretty cool this week so maybe not right now, but soon.
I have tons of volunteer tomatoes growing in my pots from the Sungold fruits which fell last year. I'm entertained by the idea of growing them out -- it was the hybrid version and so they'll be quite entertaining if I do bother. I'm not sure they'd make it before frost, but... hmm.
Need to read up on creeping thyme from seed, or how to install a pathway of the stuff. I want it to come along reasonably quickly.
I think I'm going to hang on their fence, in order: Arctic Kiwi, Asao clematis, Arctic Kiwi, Clem ternifola. I'd better wait till fall to get the latter, though, because I want a scented one.
I'm about to die of either hunger or sleep loss, so I'm off again for a little while, or maybe for a longer while. Take care.
