In Other Words...
Nov. 3rd, 2004 10:25 pm...I am afraid. Why?
I'm afraid because I'm tired, and it's late, and I can't sleep.
I'm afraid because someone I know expressed the wish to shoot Americans after the election results came in, and I'm American.
I'm afraid because I have always identified as American to some degree or another and I have realised that I don't know what that means anymore.
I'm afraid because I deal badly with the thought of people dying.
I'm afraid because I deal worse with the thought of war, and it hurts me to think about it.
I'm afraid because I'm a pacifist.
I'm afraid because I don't understand fighting back.
I'm afraid because I'm alone.
And now I'm afraid because I hear thwe key in the door.
I'm afraid because I'm tired, and it's late, and I can't sleep.

Date: 2004-11-05 03:42 pm (UTC)someone expressed the wish to shoot Americans
Date: 2004-11-05 11:17 am (UTC)On the other hand, at an American family dinner, the discussion got around to the best way to eliminate Walker's Point (aka the summer White House). It was agreed a daisy-cutter would do a good job. The younger brother expressed a strong interest in such an attempt, which would have, of course, made him an instant martyr to the cause. We were being cynical, of course, but in another place this is the prelude to action.
