So Wik and Cristin are married now. I realised that building a good, lasting monogamous marriage is a pretty subversive thing to do nowadays. In a single stroke you're taking up arms against the cult of individuality (if I eat carrots instead of celery for her once then I'm less of a person because I'm submerging myself in her tastes), against sex as currency (we won't talk about where marriage comes from, just agree with me on that), for larger kin-structures, for shared livingspace within kin structures... I dunno, there's something attractive to me about the idea of family, as opposed to individuals bound only by cobwebs moving around through the world. There are, of course, other ways to do that, but an actual marriage that lasts does seem to be one. Fascinating.

And... have fun, guys. :)

Heh... though I know the feeling, I think that you may be used to running in circles pretty far outside the "norm" when a monogomous heterosexual marriage seems to be subverting the dominant paradigm.
Last week in New York I had dinner with a friend/aquaintance who proceeded to drill me about WTF is this poly thing anyway that sounds like crap all through dinner... made me feel bad (because at this point I couldn't entirely disagree with her points) but also reminded me that most people out there (she's a young liberal democrat even) still expect monogamy as the norm.
I suppose I should expect more of this with the older generation in the next while, with my extended family etc but I was still surprised at how surprised I was. If that makes sense.

I think I mean a 'lasting' monogamous heterosexual marriage. :>

I do know that I run in pretty closed circles though.

Still haven't figured out if the Coop training session is on, haven't been to the store. Don't expect I'll know for a while, I'm going to try and figure out when I can meet up with my macro prof to talk about the four tech shocks, and if he can I'll do it today. So I may not know for hours.

Anyways, gotta head to next class.

Yarg, meeting was cancelled last minute. grr, narg.

Trying to salvage tonight, going to try and organise the ST Guild meet last minute. Today was the only day this week we could all meet. Failing that I might meet up with the Jrock about playing with the troupe. Will update more when I gets home.
