Trip:
a journey or voyage
a stumble or misstep
a light nimble step or movement of the feet
a sudden release or start
any stimulating or exciting experience
any intense interest or preoccupation
an instance or period of being under the influence of a hallucinogenic drug; the euphoria or illusions experienced during such a period
to operate, start, or set free by suddenly releasing a catch, clutch, or the like
I went on a trip last weekend to the sunshine coast, to A's parents' cabin up by a lake. It was fascinating-- the same ecosystem when catalogued, with our standard cedar, hemlock, salal, huckleberries, salmonberries, and not too much else. The plants were all very different, though-- the soil was thin and gravelly and rocky, freer draining and less organic, and I think the climate must have been different too. There was less growth per year, smaller plants overall, smaller leaves; I'm reminded of bonsai, where the same principle is used to the same (more dramatic) effect.
I went on a trip this morning instead of working; I called my boss and shifted my work week over so I could see Jack for an hour or two between me getting back and him heading home to Kelowna. I love him very much. I dunno if it's explainable. Bob and I might head up there for a spur-of-the-moment sort of thing this weekend on greyhound if we can't track down a ride or a car. It's a long weekend, which makes it a little less weird. Man, it had been a long time. I only'd met him at the permaculture course and hung out for the two weeks, but there's something very important there. It was so good to see him.
When I was gone I was on a trip; I couldn't sleep, I was jangly, I didn't end up sleeping until 5am either night and woke up pretty early as well as intermittently to feed the woodstove (weird habit, unneccessary but just *there*). After Jack headed back up crashed out for a couple of hours of sleep, and I'm sleeping soon. I've been tired enough to be getting dizzy flashes, which is never a good sign.
Fall food is making me happy; sloppy joes for supper, beef stew for tomorrow or maybe the next day, lots of whole-grain porridge. Blue Rodeo is still on the CD player, though I've moved on to songs 12 and 14. Rat breeding seems to be going okay. My house is being kept clean by both occupants, which makes me pretty happy too. All in all, there's a lot to be said for this last couple of days.
