Jan. 21st, 2023 09:01 amI guess I spent my 20s and 30s learning just how real economic stratification is, and how heritable it is. Now I'm spending my 40s watching just how hard it is for folks to fall out of that class. Job loss? Can't work regular hours? Not gonna be paid? It'll probably turn out alright, just get a job with no fixed hours that pays you three times as much? Burnt out? Just make a shitton of money and retire early, or take a couple years off. It's unreal.
I'm starting to think a lot of my friends are wealthy because of survivor bias. If you're neurodivergent and not wealthy you're probably in a gutter or barely functional, so the folks who have energy to reach out in their 30s and 40s are the ones who are left: the wealthy ones. Or, supported by a partner.
I am not one of the wealthy ones.
