Internet was down for a couple of days. Is back up now. Weird what that does to my sense of connectedness.

First VanDusen guiding session of the year over with today. It's cold out there! They're doing huge renovations on the garden right now, it'll be interesting to watch over the year.

http://www.piercedglasses.com/ , btw, for you glasses-wearers.

That freaks me out, and my freak limit is branding and supdermal implants otherwise.

I thought it went through bone when I first saw it, but apparently it's only through skin. And doesn't even hurt much to get it pierced, for lack of nerve endings.

I'd be afraid of having the lenses knocked off their magnets and being lost, like off a bridge or overboard in a boat or something.

That or, if the magnets are strong enough, getting the skin torn. I know my glasses fly off my face because of being hit at fairly regular intervals.

I've always loved that spot for piercing, and couldn't get it done because of my glasses.

I don't think the lenses being knocked off would be any more common then glasses getting knocked off your face, though?

The magnets are small, and were added to the design specifically to avoid that happening. Prototype I was just screwed right onto the barbell, meaning getting a lense caught on something could be very painful.

The magnets in magnetic clip-on shades are the same size and type. They're strong enough to keep them on, but not so strong that they would pull much.

Well, it's sort of an either-or. Either the lenses would fall off when bumped hard, or it would be painful.

I'm surprised the barbell doesn't invoke your needle-thing.

Oddly enough, tattoos and piercings mostly don't. They all deal with superficial flesh (skin) rather than invading the more complicated machinery below. My trouble with needles is mostly with the idea of things being stuck that shouldn't be. Skin, though, is pretty robust and forgiving stuff.

Still, the pain gives me pause. I'm not really into body-mod myself, though I can appreciate it on others.

Apparently there aren't a lot of nerves there, though, so I imagine that it could pull a bit before it was even uncomfortable. A good enough bump, though, and yeah, they would fall off. The only advantage they have versus normal glasses in the "not being bumped" category is that being frameless, they don't have any arms or corners sticking out at the sides of the face to get hit by things.

I love branding, alas. ;P

that's fucking awesome
I see that piercing all the time, and I always thought it was pretty redundant, now it's super functional! I wish I needed glasses ;)
