Since Y'all Are Asking...
May. 26th, 2007 07:35 pmI do, at least, still post here and not facebook, though I am on there as well.
Farmer's Market today. This morning I had flour for breakfast and didn't want to try lighting the oven (Gabe burnt his eyebrows, eyelashes, and beard off last time he did it) so I made tortillas. This was the first time. They're sorta unconventional flour tortillas, being made from whole wheat(soft) and rype flour, but they are SO SO good. I can't wait till the tomatoes come, I can mix up some cilantro, tomatoes, onions, and hot peppers and just shovel the stuff in on em. Oh, my.
So anyhow, bought more flour, I'm experimenting with soft wheat flour vs hard wheat flour and with rype in various mixes. Hit up the Vale Farms people, I think next paycheck I may order a lamb from them. Man, are those good people, and good food.
After that, we went down to Carmelis Goat Dairy. Now, here's the thing. Not only do these guys have the most amazing goat cheeses (there's a parmesan-ish one, an asiago-ish one, a camembert-like one, and a gouda-like one that I came home with, their feta is kick-ass, and they have something called a youghurt cheese that's out of this world, among others), but they have GOAT'S MILK GELATTO that is better than anything I've ever had.
Yeah, that's right.
So now I have fifteen bucks' worth of goats' milk gelatto in my freezer for those moments when I want something sweet. How wonderful is that? I'm also pretty well stocked up, though obviously not on anything quick (I suppose I could try making rype crackers, though, to go with the cheese...). Mmmmm. Happy with that.
More people are arriving Sunday night here, to live in 'the Village' where us farm-help types live. Currently I'm the only one in that are, with another girl who stays over a night or two a week. I'm curious and slightly apprehensive about having more people around all the time.
I also want much more sex than I'm currently getting just at the moment. Grr. There are lots of pretty boys around, but they are neither available nor my Bob.
It rained a little today, just enough to moisten the surface of the ground. Looks like I'll have to go turn on the irrigation after all.
Has anyone else read Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood? She's a good writer, but too dark for me. I wish I wasn't reading it, but I'm sorta sucked in now.
And now, dinner. *ponder* Maybe something to do with ground lamb... I wish I had my bamboo steamer and wok here, I'd make steamed buns. It's fun seeing how many ways you can mix flour, meat, greens, and cheese, with the occasional shot of grains. Amazing how different things can be with a little bit of a change.

Date: 2007-05-27 06:36 am (UTC)I'm officially jealous about the gelato. I'll have to email them and ask if they ever have it on Granville Island.
