Monday Dinner &c
Jun. 18th, 2007 10:44 amFamily dinners have resumed, which is pretty wonderful. The Drivefest, with big social clump and full-on Drive Effect near the end, reminded me of how much community is important to me, and there's no Korean Movie Monday or anything to act as weekly seed crystal anymore. If you're on facebook and in Van you'll probably get an invite to the odd one. If you're not on facebook, I'll call ya.
My super-wonderful rat Angel and her evil friend Bandita are in Seattle right now, where Angel is meeting Jackson in the hopes of producing the most super-wonderful babies the world has ever seen. It's been a long time since I had baby rats around, and also Angel is very very special to me, so there's a lot of stuff associated with this. It's not unheard of for rats to die in childbirth, f'rinstance, and these babies will be wonderful. It's ambivalence, I suppose.
Bob's family stuff has subsided for a month, so I have the unbelievable luxury of turning my phone off sometimes again. This is just in time, cause otherwise I'd throw it into traffic. The urge is still strong. I'm working on a switchover to landline for non-emergencies, and leaving the thing at home sometimes, but that will be a bit of a process. While it seems like having a cellphone allows more more spontanaeity (I'll call you when I get there and we'll decide what to do), really it is nice to have some planning (I'll meet you at 5pm at the B-line stop) and also some time where actually random things can happen (Hey, what are you doing on this streetcorner, let's get coffee). Also, my own issue I know, I feel obligated to answer it, which makes me irritated at people who call me-- and that's not cool. People call me cause they like me, and that's a stupid reason to be irritated at 'em.
I've been on vacation, and will continue to be on vacation till I return from Iowa on the 6th or 10th of July or something (depends on if we make a side trip). I'll come back to a shiny polished resume which I'll take around looking for some good, muscl-y outdoor landscaping work, ideally where installation rather than maintenance is emphasised. If you know of anything like this looking for people, let me know.
Vacation is lending itself to poor self-care on my part: staying out late, not sleeping, eating poorly and or at random intervals (except when super-wonderful people cook for me, you know who you are), bending boundaries because 'it's just temporary'. I need to be careful with this. It means I don't have much in the way of resources when things go weird. My inner well of serenity is disturbed. I've been trying to fix that by inviting people over for breakfast so I know I'll have it, etc.
Speaking of, breakfast now.
