I'm not sure if I mentioned this too many times yet, but I got my drums back from Kelowna-- both my big mama djembe and my big duggi. This is a great contributor to my peace of mind. I touch my djembe meaningfully at least a couple of times a day, and it instantly soothes me. This makes me a bad roommate-- that thing has bass, and it vibrates the windows and apparently everything downstairs --but it feels good.

I'd like to get a smaller djembe that I can travel with and that I can play in the mornings (Juggler sleeps late) but I'd need to find one I really like. The big ones always attract me more, somehow.

Mama's a really responsive drum. I haven't had alot of experience with different drums and I'm entirely self-taught, but there's something quite amazing about the way she amplifies the sound of your hand when you stroke the drumhead that few others do. She's got a lovely bright sound when you strike the outside ring, and she's good and resonant and full in the center, though she's not *low*. I would love to have a good deep, low djembe too sometime, but I have the feeling I'll be a bit of a collector in this arena. Hey, nothin' wrong with having everything for an imprompteau drum circle in your home.

I'd like to learn to make hand drums. I should look around for workshops.

You should post a picture of you and big mama, so certain distant people (i.e., me) have a good idea of what it looks like and its size. :)
