Rat People! Eva, Kris, Etc!
Apr. 11th, 2008 05:24 pmThere is currently a rescue in progress regarding a rat hoarding situation near Olympia WA. Initial reports said there were upwards of 400 domestic rats loose in the home of someone mentally ill. It's the age old story where she initially decided to breed her own snake food but the situation got out of hand, the rats got loose, and the snakes were found half starved. Since then, reports have ranged from "all but a few of the rats have been killed by an exterminator" to "there are still hundreds of rats loose in the home". It depends on who you talk to. A group of volunteers from RatsPacNW will be going there on Sunday, with cages and live traps to assess the situation, so we may not have an accurate report until then. In the event that some of the ratties can be saved, I have offered to personally foster 20 or more, if need be, however, I am going to need volunteers to quarantine them for at least 2 weeks before I can move them in with my other rats. Could you please check with everyone you know to see if anyone would be willing to do a 2 week foster? I can supply cages and food and a small amount of litter.
