On the way back from the airport this weekend there was one field where the ditch cut on the south edge took the sun just right and the otherwise snow-covered field had melted back ten to twenty feet from the edge. Raw dirt was exposed. You couldn't tell out of the corner of your eye driving, but... along that edge hundreds of swans were gleaning grain from the field where the snow was fresh off it, white against white.
