So.

When Josh was here there was a gosling that was poorly parented, and ended up outside the nest. It would have died but Josh and I rescued it and put it in the bathtub under a heat plate.

That was three weeks ago.

I was totally unsuccessful at integrating the gosling with the mama hen and her chicks, and at getting it to make friends with the other geese. I've been hanging out with it on my lap for a couple hours a day, and more lately been taking it out while I do chores. It's super imprinted on me and not on any geese at all. It loves snuggling, following within 6', and splashing water and poop in the bathtub.

Just the other day the same mother goose kicked out another gosling. I've put that gosling in the bathtub and it seems to be bonding at least a little to Bathtub Goose; important, because I'm not really around enough to be a good only-companion for a goose. It kept falling over backwards at first but I think it's able to walk a bit not; it can take a couple days.

So now instead of just the cats following me adoringly inside, and Hazard and Thea outside, I have this additional goose.

In other news I'm brooding quail on the kitchen table for another week until they can go outside off heat, and I put some ancona duck eggs in the incubator just the other day. I'm hoping they're fertile; I haven't seen Hans mating and the roosters are in there too, so they may discourage him. I guess we'll see.

Our heat has finally finally hit, so the tomatoes may ripen after all. There's even a chance I'll get some beans. It's a bit of a relief, even if it means I'll need to start watering the garden.
