Windstorm against my window. Rats are quiet tonight, they were loud last. My love was in my bed tonight, and now he's home. I worked ten hours today and it made me happy. I love this thing that i'm coming to do; the fact that I got azaleas about the same worth as my daily paycheque so I can bonsai them is a big plus. i like pretty things. I like pretty people. I like spontanaeity against a backdrop of routine. I like pizza. I like hearing the wind outside. I like my bedroom. I'm scared that I'm not allowed to be happy, and something will come down from the heavens and return me to a confused and chaotic state, but right no wI feel pristine. My soul feels clear and clean and mine, like it did when I first met Kynnin and we'd hang out together in front of the fireplace at night before we went to sleep, too late, and woke up tired for school the next day and I'd go home and my world was outside my bedroom door. My nose hurts from being blown too much. Iowa now has two faces. Tomorrow I will see Devon and Tillie. There are unicorns in my room.

"If my mommy puts water in a lid for me to drink while I play on her bed, I can pick the lid up in my teeth and carry that water anywhere! Oops, well, the inside is still damp enough to lick at least."

I love my babies. I'm trying a concerted effort to get train them all to come when called, not just Merlyn, and after four days of training I'm at about 80%. Aren't they smart? :)

I notice they clean themselves better when they have standing water available, for all the mess that standing water is, that's pretty cool. I wonder if I could perforate the edges of a small cake pan and wire it in as a top level, that way they couldn't kick it over or lift it and toss the water out or put towels in it or poop in it from above or...

Need to get water bottle today. I'll likely be gone tonight, and I can't fill their bowl three times today like they need if that's the case. Lesigh.

Even Caramel comes to my lap when i make the come/treats sound. Man, I dunno what I would do without my babies.

The Pope's Penis
Sharon Olds

It hangs deep in his robes, a delicate
clapper at the center of a bell.
It moves when he moves, a ghostly fish in a
halo of silver seaweed, the hair
swaying in the dark and the heat -- and at night
while his eyes sleep, it stands up
in praise of God.

My solution to the elowmentioned problem: I hold the lid, while they drink from it. Of course, this is sort of like trying to play tug of war without spilling. I can tell they're done drinking because they all make a concerted effort to steal the lid, which really did take some time.

Helen is back to being a rocket-powered rat. Actually, they're all really bouncy and active today. The girlies are chin-upping themselves onto any high surface available, Caramel is bouncy, Merlyn is... well, Merlyn is always exploratory, but he's sweetly so today. He's on my lap trying to climb onto the keyboard as I type. I can kiss him lots this way.

Helen and I were playing 'lick'. This is where she licks my arm frantically until I lick her face, at which she runs away, completely freaked out, and only returns after a minute or two to resume licking my arm.

We were also playing 'chase' with the other girlies, where i make my hand into a rat and make it run around the bed, and they chase it in circles. You'd think they'd get dizzy or something.

They all played 'swarm Greenie because she's eating breakfast pizza'.

I've been browsing the local rattery page ( http://members.shaw.ca/ratanist/ ) and it makes me happy.

I watched Chicago, the musical movie, for the first time the other day. 'Mister Cellophane' keeps going through my head, but with the words 'Mister Hurricane'. Go figure. Man, there was disturbing body language in that thing.

I really should go back to sleep, but I donwanna put my babies back in their cage.

Edit: Wow, Helen just stole a kleenex and it made her *so happy*

Harvest of the day:

First speckled Roman (well, I have another ripe one downstairs, but I didn't harvest it. The plant is pretty fragile, it dropped a lot of green ones, I'll bet a roommate picked that up for me and ripened it. So this is the first picked-deliberately speckled roman)

First green zebra. This is a grow-again, just because it looks so, so, so, so cool.

A bunch of what I think are persimmons (I need to go digging for the labels under the vines. Hah)

Handful of black plum

Handful or two of sungolds

...I did some poking around and realised that the inquiries I'd sent about the 2006 permaculture apprenticeship thing had gone to the wrong email address. The email address on the infoblurb is different than the one on the rest of the site.

I've remedied that by sending out email to the other addresses. Duh.

Here's the infoblurb. http://www.ourecovillage.org/permaculture_skillbuilder.html
