It's annoying that the solution's always the same thing: lots of clear communication and setting personal boundaries.

Why isn't there anything magic that doesn't take work? ;P

I'm gonna take the rest of the day off worrying about it if I can, go down to the Farmer's Market, spend some time with the4 SO's family (they're celebrating his brother's birthday), wear my new Pearl Jam t-shirt (!!!!) and generally see if I can relax. Then, back to the grind.

I should have guessed this would come up back when I was thinking, gee, this long distance relationship is working so well!

Actually, I'm always right. Sometimes the Universe just needs to be informed and corrected.

I'm curious about the argument, however invalid it may be. ;)

Well... my argument was not so much "made wrong by your statement" as it was "irrelevant to your statement".

In a nutshell... a thing can be magical in and of itself, but the process of doing magick is really entirely different from that. It's like... the difference between "that is a colourful blouse" and "I am colouring my picture"... or maybe not. I'm not really sure now. :) Colour and magick are elusive.

Luckily, carrying on multiple conversations in multiple threads at once is very comfortable for me. So...

Magick?

My own opinion really is that we take a hell of a lot of stuff for granted that really is magic, and go searching for useless things to call by that name. My own opinion is also that everything follows from other things in an interwoven complexity of being and nothing 'just happens'. Those are at times contradictory. Is it magic that I can think two contradictory things at once?

Magick-with-a-k is, in my circles, the term we use for deliberate spellworking, as opposed to all that other great stuff that is inherently magical. I'm not in any way denigrating magic stuff, just setting aside the deliberate process from the inherent stuff.

It's also useful as a snobby thing, by people who like to spell their words differently in the hope of impressing others.

See, my thing on "just happens" is this: It's entirely possible that shit just happens, and that the universe has better things to do with its time than organize my life like a DM sending me opportunities for experience points. BUT, if I operate under the assumption that life is deliberately organized by some divine entity for my education and enjoyment, then life is more satisfying and more fun, and I generally just get a lot more out of it. So I don't worry about the "truth" of that, because by acting like life is a series of lessons I have been learning a lot more.
