On the topic of food:
Date: 2007-04-04 04:56 pm (UTC)Rather than salad dressing, maybe go with a good supply of olive oil and some balsamic vinager? They don't need to be refregerated and they do double duty as a yummy bread dip. If you want to be super fancy, add soy sauce, red wine, and spices to taste. 1 part soy sauce, 1 part red wine, one part balsamic makes a delicious base dressing. I use it for greek salad and quinoa salads all the time.
Maybe also some tinned/tetra packed chicken broth? And miso paste? Easy hot soups are good when it's cold at night, or raining all day. You can simmer up some fresh veggies in a bit of chicken broth with miso in it then dump in cooked noodles for yummy soup.
All the dried spices you may need to cook anything at all you want, in zip-lock baggies. They take up no space, weigh nearly nothing, and will make you a happier person, if you're anything like me, cooking wise.
I think I need to go have breakfast now... :)

Date: 2007-04-04 10:45 pm (UTC)I'm not sure how happy I'd be without Little Creek dressing, and I do have a fridge and freezer there, but basalmic and olive oil are great ideas.
Miso is also a great idea. Spices... hm. That sounds like a little more effort than I'll want to put into cooking in the first week or two, but if I forget salt I'll be in a bad place.

Date: 2007-04-04 06:48 pm (UTC)Polar fleece would do for your extra blankets if you have time to go to a fabric store. They're usually selling some ugly pattern off cheap, and it doesn't need to be hemmed (is that spelled right?).
Also offhand, flashlight, and glasses (for backup).

Date: 2007-04-04 10:47 pm (UTC)Granola bars or anything mainly seedy/nutty actually makes me pretty nauseous if I rely on it as food, instead of using it for garnish. It limits my options that way. Luckily dried fruit works, and is a great idea.
I have a ton of afghan blankets around, and Juggler sewed me a polar fleece sleeping bag liner last year, but an extra polar fleece piece for a wandering-around blanket ythat can get dirty isn't a bad idea.
Flashlight- duh.
Glasses- I really should own a pair, hm?
